031 Water Balance District

Design 2008 | Architect selection

On the location of the planned housing district of Westergouwe, two major water storage topics are defined.

  • Collecting the rain peeks on the Zuidplaspolder to connect to the maximum pump capacity of the pumps.
  • Storing rainwater in the wet periods to keep the surface water at a consistent level during the dry periods

In the concept of a Water Balance District we studied the possibility of slowing down and storing the necessary water in the build urban program.

In this way the Water Balance District gives a unique identity and experience to living with water in the municipality of Westergouwe.
